Position Description

Position Objective
 
The Family Advocate is responsible for developing a family engagement plan for one of five schools in the Elev8 network. This position facilitates connections between families and program providers; provide assessment, screening and support services via in-home interventions, school-based advocacy, and family tracking that support student and family participation and development in all three areas – learning, health and family support. The Family Advocates’ effectiveness in building relationships and trust with young people and their families is critical to the success of the initiative at each school.

  • Support a collaborative, achievement oriented school culture
  • Exhibit the personal belief that each child can achieve at high academic levels and that is the role of all adults in the student’s life to commit to facilitating a child’s success.
  • Work with faculty, staff and Elev8 Baltimore partners to develop the initiative and the individual schools in the network.
  • Engage students and parents in the development and evaluation of Eelv8 Baltimore.
  • Model the school’s core values and set the standard for professional behavior.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with all faculty, staff, students, parents and Elev8 Baltimore partners
  • Assist in the preparation of school policies and procedures to faculty, staff, students, parents and Elev8 Baltimore Partners.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned management.
 
Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, health, social work and a minimum of three years demonstrated experience working with community based organizations and their constituencies.
  • Three years of successful experience working with health, social service or public school systems, including development and implementation of family support programs and work experience in community organizing, family engagement, organizational development and education policy.
  • Ability to travel to various locations to assist families; proof of driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Passionate commitment to improving urban public schools and to the mission of EBDI and Elev8 Baltimore.
 
Salary:  Salary is commensurate with work experience, skills and educational background.
