If you would like to join a creative, collaborative, innovative team doing meaningful work, join us a Material Specialist II, where you be responsible for procurement of various supplies, equipment, parts, service, and uniforms in maintenance of the Sanitary Sewer Conveyance system and Pumping Stations in Fairfax County, Wastewater Management (WWM). This position resides in the Wastewater Collection Division located in Burke and the responsibilities include:

  • Determines what parts to stock, in what quantities, and where parts should be shelved using inventory management principles.
  • Inspects receipts and invoices and enters them into the county's software program.
  • Uses a computer daily to enter stock using the automated inventory management system and/or the fleet management system.
  • Interacts with operational staff to determine parts requirements and shop supplies needed by the facility.
  • Issues parts and shop supplies to meet facilities operation requirements and updates the utilizing of the computer system based on the number of items issued at POS. and parts catalogs.
  • Routinely orders parts, supplies, and equipment in support of the operation.
  • Works with other departments to satisfy purchasing procedures/requirements.
  • Uses the county's procurement system to order needed stock and non-stock parts and supplies.
  • Place orders and process payment using the County procurement card.
  • Knowledge and understanding of procurement card use.
  • Works in and supports an Industrial Environment. Provides purchasing and inventory support.
  • Knowledge of and experience with automated procurement, inventory management, and fleet management systems.
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team oriented, and able to adapt behavior, work methods, and resources in response to changing work demands, new information, or unexpected obstacles. In addition to possess problem-solving skills and the ability to seek for continual learning.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; and three years of experience procuring or issuing and receiving equipment or performing accounts payable functions.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to obtain Forklift Safety Training Certificate within six months of hire date.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, credit check, and a pre-employment physical examination to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Two years of experience in receiving/shipping/and/or inventory control.
  2. Two years of experience performing inventory cycle count program, and annual physical inventory.
  3. Knowledge / experience of industrial warehouse practices and procedures.
  4. One year of experience operating a forklift.
  5. One year of experience using MS Word, EXCEL, and Outlook.
  6. Experience with FOCUS FILO or any inventory control program and financial/ procurement modules.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to climb stairs and walk on a daily basis to perform receiving of freight trucks and deliveries. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to receive calls, research information, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to produce organized and legible handwritten, typed/computer generated documents including the use of graphics. Good vision and the ability to load, receive, and lift 50 pounds; strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to operate keyboard and scanner driven equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
