Job Description

The Instructional Coach provides leadership, professional learning, and coaching support to

teachers to the development of instructional practices (lesson planning, modeling, student engagement, data-informed instruction, and assessment development) to increase opportunities for all students to succeed in general education settings.

This position will support both ACHS high school campuses and reports to the Principal.

This position is a 240-day/12 month contract.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, Master's degree preferred


Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required, or eligibility to obtain one

Experience:

  • A minimum of three to five years of successful teaching experience
  • Knowledge of Virginia Department of Education Curriculum Standards and Assessments
  • Knowledge of ACPS' Multi-Tiered Systems of Support that includes the Tier I Instructional Framework
  • Deep knowledge of instructional strategies, conditions for learning, and assessment of learning
  • Knowledge of current research in instructional coaching, instruction that connects the curriculum to the learner, teacher effectiveness, differentiated instruction, and best practices in instruction
  • Knowledge of culturally-relevant pedagogy and equitable practices that impact student outcomes

Essential Functions

  • Support classroom teachers through focused mentoring and/or coaching, structured intervisitations, collaborative team teaching, and/or designing or recommending meaningful opportunities for professional growth
  • Facilitates the consistent use of effective instructional strategies by supporting classroom teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, demonstration sessions, reflection, and focused classroom observations
  • Utilizes effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common understanding and language regarding instructional focus, promotion of division and school-wide initiatives, and curriculum and instructional expectations
  • Collaborates with diverse educators that would with special populations, including special education, and English Language Learners, Advanced Academics
  • Collaborates with administrators and instructional leadership team members to tailor differentiated support for teachers
  • Leads workshops, seminars, and training sessions focused on diverse instructional strategies, pedagogical approaches, and PLCs across various disciplines
  • Organizes and facilitates, in a collaborative manner, program specific professional learning and implementation to support the inclusion of all students.
  • Empower teachers through the exploration of innovative instructional strategies, fostering a culture of continuous growth and professional development
  • Coordinates services and communicates program goals with appropriate personnel
  • Strengthens teachers' instructional knowledge and repertoire of pedagogical strategies for teaching rigorous content to all students
  • Assists teachers in establishing dynamic classroom atmospheres that consistently integrate effective engagement strategies, ensuring all learners are actively supported in challenging and rigorous academic pursuits
  • Supports teachers' mastery of academic content delivery through various modalities, including reading, writing, oral communication, hands-on activities, and project-based learning across all disciplines
  • Supports teachers in setting student achievement goals aligned with pedagogical principles and data-driven insights, fostering professional growth and enhancing overall academic development
  • Facilitates the analysis and interpretation of formative and summative assessment data and continuous improvement process school-wide
  • Assists administrative and instructional staff in analyzing and interpreting data and designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions to improve student achievement
  • Collaborates with teachers, both individually and in small groups, to analyze student work, reflect on instructional delivery, evaluate lessons, and differentiate instruction accordingly.
  • Documents work and keep progress logs with teacher input
  • Supports the development and implementation of PLCs among teachers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Participates in ACPS' division-wide instructional coach collaboration days
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Clearances:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance

  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
