Sr Area General Manager - Oncology - South Texas

The Senior Area General Manager - Oncology - South Texas (Sr. AGM) is responsible for delivering top-line targets with effectively leading and managing a dynamic cross-functional customer facing team within their business unit. The role will manage a cost base which consists of personnel and flexible spend and will make necessary trade-offs to maximize impact. The Sr. AGM has deep understanding of the specific needs of healthcare practitioners and health care systems within Oncology across multiple products and tumor types; ultimately driving customer and patient centric outcomes while ensuring performance goals are met. The role requires extensive collaboration with HQ and other stakeholders to drive performance outcomes.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Area General Manager - Oncology - South Texas, are the following:

  • Accountable for achieving revenue goals for the area. Execute comprehensive strategies and initiatives to drive revenue growth and market share in the region. Work within the financial framework provided by the organization;
  • The role is accountable for developing and leading a high performing team in the business unit. This team includes sales representatives, key account managers, and other specialized roles as deemed necessary. Responsible for regularly assessing and determining the size and composition of the team based on market needs;
  • The role embodies the key elements of being an outstanding leader visionary, architect, coach and catalyze. The leader develops a One Team approach with a mindset of shared accountability within the team. Responsible for coaching and developing team members and helping them realize their full potential;
  • Responsible for gaining and applying a deep understanding of relevant markets, business models, strategic priorities, future direction, and financial drivers. This includes understanding and engaging in key local and national, health care issues/strategies, customer issues/trends, pathway and quality trends and best practices;
  • The role will define the Regional strategy and priorities in collaboration with the cross-functional and HQ team. Manages a portfolio of Oncology brands in Prostate and Targeted Medicine and dynamically allocates resources to maximize impact. Sets, executes and measures market-based objectives for the business unit;
  • Develops long-term relationships with influential customers to address current and future business opportunities and advance brand(s) adoption. Understands customer business needs and effectively and compliantly communicates the value proposition through proposals and presentations;
  • Maintains timely communications with all direct reports and matrix partners, management, and internal and external stakeholders;
  • Lead and orchestrate initiatives that are national in scope, acting as an intermediary with the VP Sales leader, cross functional teams and collaborating with other Sr. Area General Managers ensuring field deployment excellence and strategy. National initiatives will include, but are not limited to product launch planning, incentive compensation, learning and development;
  • Oversee and coordinate appropriate allocation of specialized support resources (eg FRMs, KAMs, Oncology Nurse Educators, Oncology Regional Marketers, etc) across other area businesses. The specialized support teams will have dotted line reporting into the Sr AGM. The Sr AGM will provide directional guidance and alignment when specialized resources are needed across other area business units within Oncology;
  • Will sit on and lead one or more operational committees and workstream teams to represent the Oncology field organization (operational teams include, but not limited to: Field Advisory, Incentive Compensation, Medical, L&D, Account Management);
  • Will influence functional stakeholders to steer the needs of the field organization and provide advice and counsel within committee on recommended deployment strategies that will advance business;
  • The primary location for this role is the South Texas territory, which includes the following metropolitan areas:
    • Houston, TX
    • Austin, TX
    • San Antonio, TX
    • Corpus Christi, TX
    • Galveston, TX
    • Baton Rouge, LA
    • New Orleans, LA
    • Jackson, MS
    • Hattiesburg, MS
    • Gulfport, MS
    • Candidates residing in the territory or within reasonable commute to the territory are strongly preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with significant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector with roles of increasing responsibility in sales, account management, market access, brand management, commercial operations, medical, and other related roles;
  • People leadership and/or cross-functional experiences (with or without authority) are a must;
  • Demonstrated strength in coaching mentoring teams/peers; helping others to meet or exceed their goals, targets, and other responsibilities;
  • High level of business and financial acumen and ability to identify strategies with greatest business impact;
  • Demonstrated success in formulating and implementing business plans in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment;
  • Thorough understanding of health systems, customer segments, regional market dynamics, and KOL development within the therapeutic areas;
  • Willing and able to travel routinely on a weekly basis; must possess a valid driver's license;
  • Current/prior experience leading specialized support teams (e.g. FRM, KAM, Clinical Educators, etc.) and/or leadership positions managing multiples levels within the organization;
  • Must have demonstrated a strong ability to lead without authority in a matrixed organization;
  • Demonstrated experience leading national workstreams, with proven ability to manage competing priorities and collective business needs;
  • Experience in working in or part of operational roles such as incentive compensation planning, learning and development, medical, account management, etc.;
  • Deep understanding of national & regional business strategies, with proven ability to influence field deployment strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector with roles of increasing responsibility in sales, account management, market access, brand management, commercial operations, medical, and/or other related areas;
  • Oncology expertise strongly preferred;
  • Experience in managing budgets, negotiating for resources, and maximizing the return on investment preferred;
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams strongly preferred.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $221,236 to $304,200. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
