The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for Supervisor Light Rail Service & Inspection. The Supervisor, Services, and Inspection is the supervisory level of work responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program for the inspection, testing, repair, and maintenance of rail vehicles. Employees supervise personnel performing tasks associated with all aspects of maintaining a rail car. The supervisor participates in budget preparation, is responsible for the financial accounting of labor and materials, and interfaces with training staff personnel to assist and support in training activities. Employees keep abreast of changes in transit equipment, systems, technology, and operations. Employees directly supervise technicians, A and B repairmen and other employees.

Employees receive managerial supervision from the Superintendent, Rail Car Maintenance or other designated official. Employees are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees are required to travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area, in all types of weather conditions.
Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and satisfactory completion of a program in a formal vocational or trade school or other formal training in one or more of the following fields: High Voltage Electrical Power and related Control Systems, Electronic Communications Systems, Railroad Signaling and Train Control Systems, Electronic Fare Collection Systems, Railcar Electronic Systems, Railcar Mechanical Systems or other complex electro-mechanical or electronic systems.

Experience: Five years experience in one of the fields listed above.


SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:
1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.

3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Experience Requirement of the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.


Licenses & Certifications

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

2. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Additional Information

1. The Supervisor, Service and Inspection is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Employees may be assigned to work various work shifts and days off.

2. Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone or beeper) for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.

3. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49 - Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules.

4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49 - Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules.
